** Graphic Display of loose skin around my stomach near the end — Viewers may want to ensure a bag is available **
Today’s episode I deal with the one of the most common questions people ask me after hearing of my 200 pound weight loss. That is, “do you have much problems with loose skin?” In the end, I have to admit that I do have a bit of loose skin (I affectionately & sometime not so affectionately my “SharPei”) around my torso and legs, but it could be much worse. I could have the sheets of skin some dieters (more often low Calorie big losers) have or even worse be my original weight still living in fear of loose skin. There are times that I actually like my stretchmarks as they server as reminders of what might be if I think I can lax up. It also serves as a talking point like my pathetic driver’s license does for people looking for hope, but most days I am just thankful for shirts.
There are other things that are claimed to help, but I have not tried. Cocoa Butter and Mederma are both used by pregnant women to ease the appearance of stretchmarks. Additionally, I believe the content of this Diet helps in maintaining the elasticity due to protein and fat being featured. The body does not cannibalize its own resources like on other diets, and many report their skin looks as good and clear as it ever had. Good skin health implies good skin elasticity to respond to the weight loss as well.
One final theory about loose skin:
http://www.bodyfatguide.com/LooseSkin.htm
To summarize the above link, there is no problem with loose skin, just a body fat percentage problem. I am at 11-12% body fat, so maybe I need to drop another 2-3 percent yet too. In either case, plastic surgery may be for some people, but it’s not for me.

A foot off your …
A foot off your thighs. Truly amazing!
I’m jealous about your lack of double chin though. Some guys like me put on just a little weight and then when it comes off they look like a thin face in saggy head, lol. Your face looks like you’ve always been your current weight.
Funny…
I am so …
Funny…
I am so not vain enough to ever get facelift or botox. As for how I look now, my face didn’t shrink 24 inches like my waist did or >12 inches like my thighs did. That said I did shrink 5/8″ in my hat size, so I guess Atkins is indeed good for a fat head or big ego.
Wow! No way could …
Wow! No way could you have loose skin like that but no double chin at all. C’mon – fess up. Facelift? Botox? I’m 33 and have never weighed more than 13 stone, but have a double chin I can’t get rid of with any diet!
It’s still there — …
It’s still there — perhaps a bit less than this video, but not by much.
The places I notice it most is my stomach and thighs. but both have dropped by over 60% (58″ to 34-36″. Part of my says it or any damaged skin was inevitable.
Just like a broken bone is never the same, it can actually be stronger. I think I am stronger for the damage as it remains a reminder for what might be. Getting discouraged about it only feeds needless self-criticism, which often leads to return to former self.
You sure are right …
You sure are right about age and loose skin. I completely agree and say it often, I would much rather have a bit of loose skin that the fat to fill it out.
I have lost 100 pounds and thankfully don’t have much loose skin. I am really surprised and happy about that. When I look at my fat pictures I can see layers of fat on my neck, it is now gone. Wow.
You have been thin for a long time I see. Congratulations. How is the skin now?

Hats off to you for …
Hats off to you for coming on the camera and let us see this…brave indeed, and thank you for encouraging words. I lost 115lbs a couple of years ago and have loose skin…needless to say that I didn’t do all you can to get rid of it. I got into weight training which amazingly helped with the loose skin around neck and arms. The idea of surgery hits from time to time but I keep telling myself that I will live with it and get rid of it (naturally), sooner or later. Good luck to you.
The beach ready …
The beach ready body is a state of mind. I think your body can indeed shrink and look better over time. If you tone where you can and let good nutrition do the rest, your skin can return to where it had been and the stretchmarks if any certainly fade or disappear.
Alright fine …
Alright fine welcome to my block file… I tried to be cordial, but apparently you lost the ability to converse like an adult. I can’t abide any put downs to others, so have a nice life and again I hope you never have to regret calling anyone else a “fatty.”
a beach ready body …
a beach ready body hahaha?? do you think your going to turn into some kind of ..bikini model haha.. just calm down atleast your alive…. I got severely sunburned at the beach 3 years ago. and now i have spots.. thick lines on my neck .. i meen its not that bad but considering its 1 sun exposure its fucked.. dont worry about it ok.. atleast your alive like i said
Thank you. I lost …
Thank you. I lost about a hundred pounds naturally by excersize and diet and have loose skin. That gives me hope it will eventually tighten up and I will have a beach ready body someday kinda soon.
No, I don’t. You …
No, I don’t. You might want to talk to your doc because he might be able say you have a medical reason for abdomnioplasty covered by insurance. I don’t have any medical conditions with mine, so all of mine would be out of pocket.
Do you ever get …
Do you ever get infections in your belly button? My stomach looks pretty much like yours after losing 110 pounds and I keep getting infections in my belly button because the skin is hanging over it and no air gets in.
Thank you for the …
Thank you for the kind words. Vanity will only take you so far, but exercising 2x daily like you are ad eating nright will give you a body that will make anybody envious.
standing ovation! …
standing ovation! probably spelled that wrong but, yes you take caring of your body definantly out weighs some vain skin! i only have 49 pounds to lose but, i had to c sections so i may have extra skin too but, i want this weight gone! lol!
Thank you!
Thank you!
I think if you ate …
I think if you ate correctly on the way down (not to starvation) and exercised just enough to increase blood flow you shouldn’t have an issue.
Dear Bowulf
First …
Dear Bowulf
First of all congratulations that is the grand success…Could you tell me if I do it the same way at my age ( I am 45 6 ft and 242 pound) after that do I look older ? I applied 10 years ago the same diet and lost 60 pounds but then to avoid an unexpected divorce:))Igained again in 2 years

just lose more body fat not weight but body fat
If you do not have …
If you do not have 125-200 pounds to lose, you probably will not be left with loose skin if you lose the weight correctly. My loose skin will probably be with me forever.
can you catuly lose …
can you catuly lose this extra skin with train of something natrual with out surgery
You are welcome. …
You are welcome. It is all about accepting the reality and doing the best with what you have. I may never be rid of the scars or imperfection of past mistakes, but how much better to ensure it never happens again.
Those that matter don’t care about specifics and simply celebrate in my success. Keep up the good work!
Your bravery to …
Your bravery to show your loose skin gave me a new way to look at this upcoming problem for me. Thank you for pointing out the alternative! I am thrilled to hear a REAL person talk about this. And I am choosing to stick with my Atkins. I have many many pounds to lose, and have lost 40 now in 7-1/2 weeks. And after watching this, I know it won’t be “pretty” with the loose skin, but it’s better than carry that skin filled with fat. Thank you again!
